The Virkiä Jukola at Lapua
The organizing sports club Lapuan Virkiä celebrates its 100th anniversary in 2007, and the 59th Jukola relay and the 30th Venla relay are the main celebration event of the year for the club. Lapuan Virkiä also hosted the the Jukola relay in 1979 in the same terrain. The event center is situated right at the center of Lapua city, at the foot of Mount Simpsiö that is the only mountain amid the vast plain.
The terrain offers excellent possibilities for exciting relay racing, because the altitude difference between the lowest and the highest points is almost 100 metres. The event center is situated in the same place as the Fin5 orienteering week race center was back in 1994.
