The Delaware Valley Orienteering Assosiation (DVOA) will be hosting a 2-Day event featuring the 2010 US Team Trials, where our team that will complete at World Championships in the Norway in the summer will be selected. There will be middle distance course on Saturday, May 15th, 2010 in the morning followed by afternoon sprint course, and a long distance course on Sunday, May 16th, 2010.

Time to get ready for the last big event of DVOA’s 40th Anniversary year.

DVOA is hosting the first ever full orienteering marathon (26.2 miles or 42 kilometers) held in the United States and possibly the world. The Valley Forge Battle to the End O Marathon will be an event not to miss!

If you have ever given thought to running a marathon, but have been deterred by boredom or the prospects of running such a long distance on jarring pavement, this is the solution. As an orienteering marathon, there will be the challenges of navigation to keeps your mind occupied, and with most of the expected winning route on trails and fields, your feet and knees will be treated fairly.

The course was carefully designed such that the actual orienteering distance is not that much longer than the straight-line distance, and climb is kept to a minimum (under 2%). It is designed to be as pleasant as a marathon can be. There is also a half marathon option for people who want an appetizer rather than the four course meal.

Both DVOA teams are now official.

 DVOA Valley Goat III race on Mt. Misery/Mt. Joy at Valley Forge National Historic Park attracted most of the DVOA Jukola/Venla team candidates. Everyone “enjoyed” brutal Valley Goat long or medium distance, which was more closer to a regular goat style race.

After the race we met at nearby Baja Fresh (Mexican grill) restaurant in King Of Prussia, PA for a post-race lunch and future trip to Finland discussion.
